Getting Started

Therapists do their own scheduling.  If you’re scheduling your first appointment, please take a moment to read the therapist bios on the homepage and choose who you’d like to see.  Then contact the therapist directly.  Not sure who you’d like to see?  Choose “General Inquiries” on our “Make an Appointment” form and we’ll match you with a therapist who’s trained to address your concerns.

Once you’re seeing a therapist,  you can contact them directly to schedule or cancel an appointment.  If you’re canceling your appointment, please remember to give us 24 hours notice or you may be charged a cancellation fee.

Individual, couples, and group therapy sessions may be covered, in full or in part, by your health insurance plan.  Please call your health insurance provider to determine what mental health coverage you have, what your deductible and co-pay may be, and whether we’re in-network or out-of-network (check under the name  of the therapist you’d like to see, not Prairie Wellness).  Please note that you’re ultimately responsible for paying for services.  If your insurance company denies payment, you’ll be responsible for the cost of the session.

We do not file secondary insurance claims.  If your secondary coverage is provided by the same company as your primary coverage, your secondary claim will be processed automatically.  If not, we’ll give you a bill that you can file with your secondary insurance company.  We can not guarantee that your claim will be paid.

If we’re out of your insurance provider’s network, we’ll be happy to provide you with a receipt and you can file your claim yourself.  It will be up to your insurance company to determine whether or not you receive reimbursement for your payment.

If you’d like to pay yourself, check with the therapist you want to see to determine their rate for the service you’re interested in.

We accept most major credit cards.

Insurance does not cover our Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction class but it usually covers group therapy.

If you’re using health insurance, please bring your insurance card.  All clients should bring identification.

Once you’re scheduled your first appointment, your therapist will send you an invite to TherapyPortal.  You can complete all of your new client paperwork there.  If you aren’t able to access our client portal, please make arrangements with your therapist to come 20 minutes early to complete paperwork at our office.

Prairie Wellness is located at 3209 Ingersoll, near downtown Des Moines.  We’re a few blocks south of the I-235 31st Street exit and just across the street from Caribou Coffee.

We have three suites – 100, 112, and 207.  Please check with your therapist to find out which suite you should come to.

There’s plenty of free, well lit parking on the east side of the building.  We’re also on the Des Moines DART bus line. The building is wheelchair accessible.
